'It's like they never miss a pass': The Swans' Galbraith resumes clash with City.

Ethan Galbraith grins broadly as he recalls the dramatic final moments of his team's remarkable turnaround victory against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup. The encounter culminated with Galbraith briefly donning a fan's glasses amid the pitch-side pile-on.

As the match entered added time, Galbraith struck the post with a powerful effort from distance, and the defender promptly hammered in the deflection before racing off toward the home end to celebrate, with fans swarming the players.

Extraordinary Turnaround

The victory capped an unbelievable turnaround given the Welsh side had been behind 2-0 during the second half. During the celebrations, there was some unintended consequences. Galbraith explained, "There was a supporter sort of calling out and we were puzzled: 'What's he on about here?' Then we noticed the glasses. It was a funny incident putting them on. We are on the pitch as athletes but we're people, too, so to have a joke with the fans is always good."

Pep Guardiola Test

That win booked a upcoming match at home against Manchester City on Wednesday, opponents Galbraith pushed hard at the comparable phase of the FA Cup with the London side in February. He had arguably the best view when Orient took the lead in spectacular fashion, with the attacker's volley from about long distance going in via the woodwork and the opposition keeper. It seems unfair that it was credited as an own goal.

"You would have hoped they would've credited him for attempting the shot from that distance," says Galbraith, who played in the middle before moving to right wing-back after they changed tactics. That meant competing with the England international, with whom he swapped shirts, and the player was among the Manchester squad who praised the way his former team played positively.

Opponent's Class

"Fitness-wise they are very good but even the basics and routine actions, they can just execute repeatedly," he explains. "It feels like they never miss a pass and they are adept at manage and slow down a game. You can believe you're holding your own and then without warning they will just deliver a through ball through a line without you even spotting it. You have to be focused at all times of the game. It takes a strong mentality and concentration just to stay in the game."

New Chapter

The Welsh side were keen on Galbraith in January and fought off rivals to bring him in in the summer in a significant move. He established himself as a popular figure across a couple of years at Leyton Orient and has swiftly replicated that in Wales. At Orient he reunited with the coach, who four years ago gave Galbraith his initial sustained opportunity in senior football on loan at his loan club from Manchester United. Then came a spell at League Two the Manchester club, before he permanently left Old Trafford.

Learning Curve

"I was probably a bit naive going into senior level. I think numerous professionals would say development squad matches is very different. Sometimes it feels like possession is exchanged without real physicality. There's not many physical contests. Once you start playing professional matches you have to adjust fast."

Country Call-ups

His progress reflects that maturation for both domestically and internationally, shining for his national side, who are fighting to qualify for the international competition next summer via the playoffs and for whom he has featured in the recent fixtures, including two matches games against Germany. The ex-coach, Galbraith's ex- international manager, gave him the ultimate compliment, saying he was Northern Ireland's "midfield general" given how he handles the football and his ability to spot a killer pass.

Early Days

It has been quite the ride for the kid from the local area in Glengormley, just outside Northern Ireland's main city, who used to see his father, the elder Galbraith, also a central player, play for his father's team.

Red Devils Debut

His sole appearance for United came in Central Asia in 2019, a continental tournament trip to the host city, where they competed on an synthetic surface and the arena covering was sealed owing to conditions of freezing cold. "This represented a lengthy journey and it was chilly," he recalls, grinning. "The week before, several youth players and I practiced as a group, so that helped us acclimatise. Just to accompany the senior squad and get a couple of minutes at the end was unbelievable."

Departing Old Trafford

What was the challenge was it to move on from Old Trafford, the club he joined from Linfield aged his mid-teens? "It was quite easy, because I reached the point where I understood I wouldn't break through at the top level. I'm extremely thankful for the years at the club but it became apparent where I thought I had to take a different path, move to a lower level and play professional soccer. Now I'm gradually climbing the ladder."

New Environment

This occurs during mid-afternoon at the team's practice facility but Galbraith has a commitment at the early evening: a driving theory test, another move in the direction of getting on the road. Before his recent move to the local area, the 24-year-old was a frequent passenger in Swansea's dubbed team minibus, a small coach driven by team personnel, the drivers, which transports players to and from sessions and fixtures.

"My companions include Gonçalo Franco, the Brazilian, an Ivorian player – Melker Widell used to be in it but has got his license. It's nice to socialize with the lads but I'm planning to be the subsequent individual to drive independently and on the road. Franco is known for his humor; he's frequently playing tricks."

Supporter Connections

When he represented his former club, Galbraith would blend in with supporters on London's Central line after beginning his trip at Brentwood. "I tried|I attempted|My aim
